Doubles Tactics for Club Players: “Viewpoint of Returner’s Partner for Neutral & Attacking Formations”
In the first two clips, the returner is receiving a first serve. It is safer for the returner’s partner to start on the service line in case the return is hit soft to the net player. This gives the returner’s partner a much better chance of getting the ball back if it is hit to them.
For 2nd serves, if the returner is hitting good returns, the returner’s partner can start a little bit further up the box. This can help with moving forward to finish off weaker shots.
