This final between Alcaraz and Sinner is in the top five of the best finals of all times, without any doubt. The level of play was the best possible level of play you can expect from two tennis players today. Just unbelievable. People who say that some woman seemed to match her average in terms of level.
Carlos had struggled to get into the match. It took him probably two sets and a break down. That was also what was interesting. Every time he felt I’m going to lose. Then the reaction was incredible. And it happened a few times during the match.
The battle was incredible. But every time he felt I’m going to lose. Then suddenly his level went up. So after setting a break, he felt it. His level rose suddenly when he was five three down the left foot into the fourth. Reaction was incredible. Best final ever because of the level.
Because of the scenario. You understand in that match how much tennis is a mental game. And it’s not about the tennis. But when you have a match like this where you understand the psychology of tennis, the psychological part, the mental part with the level, that is the best possible level you can imagine with a scenario that is a Hitchcock scenario, that the match is just unreal.
Alcaraz and Sinner played five hours and a half with an incredible intensity all the way. Some people were saying, oh, the start of the fifth, a sinner doesn’t hit the ball the same way. I didn’t see that. Maybe I don’t see well, but I didn’t see that. He was there, but the mental part has always effects on the physical. Also, when you feel down, you cannot be as dynamic at the start.
I think Alcaraz for two sets was not as explosive as usual, but it was not physical. It was mental. I mean, tennis is the most mental sport in the world and this match was just showing its so clearly every time one of the two players, whether it was unclear as a sinner, was feeling that is going to lose it, was able to suddenly bring your level, his level to the next level.
That for sure the mark of the champions. They can’t accept to lose. And when they feel they’re on the edge of losing, suddenly the reaction is they are punching them. No, this is not going to happen to tiebreak of the fifth, Alcaraz felt this is the money time. It’s now or never. That was why he was able to lift his level to another level
